A Denny's in Federal Way has been accused of racist after employees asked three young black men to pay for their food before receiving it, while white customers were allowed to pay after. Palmer Pellham took to social media Thursday to call out what he felt was blatant racist at the restaurant and described how they were not asked to pay for their meal in advance but black patrons were. The Facebook post garnered over 19,000 reactions and 7,800 comments as people weighed in on the event.
Pellham said the waitress took three young men's orders but then returned to her table, "She then asks for them to pay before the cook will prepare their food. She says that she has had several people order food and leave without paying so her manager said she had to have them pay first." This prompts the young men to ask to speak with the manager. Pellham went on to say, "The young men did not make a scene or disrupt other people. They were complaining a little bit but quietly." Pellham and his wife witnessed this whole situation and decided they had lost their appetites, "At this point my wife and I have lost our appetites, drop our forks, and tell the server we are leaving and want to pay." The waitress rationalized the treatment of the restaurants black customers by saying that several people have left without paying recently according to Pellham's Facebook post.
“I told her that being racist was not the way to deal with that situation," Pellham said. "She began to argue with me and asked how should she deal with it. I told her to call the police and that if someone doesn't pay their bill that #Denny's should cover the loss. Her manager finally turned around and told her not to talk to me. I finished paying and said that I was never going to Denny's again. They young men thanked us as we left."

Before anyone jumps on the Racist bandwagon, I'd love to ask DENNY's how many times certain customers have ordered meals, ate, went to the restrooms and ran. I have seen it a few times myself in DC, LA, & Atlanta . An many times the waitress would cry because the Mgr. stick them with the $20+ bill.
Denny's shouldn't give in. They should force people to pay for their meals. It is not fair that you can go to Denny's and not have to pay when you leave.
