An 18-year-old Alabama teen named Daniel Bennett showed up in a court hearing this week where he stood accused of molesting a horse.
It appeared Mr. Bennett had a taste for the finer specimen of the horse as he had picked a 20-year-old mare named Polly to try out his case of bestiality.
It furthermore looked as if Mr. Benett and the horse had been ‘acquainted’ on several occasions in the past already as the owner of the horse was on the lookout for whoever had been breaking into the stable since December of last year. It would appear he caught Mr. Benett in the act and thus called the police department.
The Mobile County Sheriff's Office says the young man afterward confessed to attempting to molest the horse. His trial is set to start on 18 January 2018.
The state of Alabama rendered bestiality illegal since 2014. It carries a maximum penalty of 1-year imprisonment and a $6,000 fine.
Having sex with animals is in fact as old as mankind itself.
There has been wall drawing of a prehistoric man having intercourse with animals and in Roman times there was, of course, the myth of the ultimate god of the Mount Olympus, Zeus, who disguised himself as a bull to have intercourse with a fair maiden named Europa.
However, as from the middle ages, bestiality was punished by execution, typically burning at the stake of the perpetrator.
In certain pagan cultures having intercourse with a horse is still seen as a cleansing ritual supposed to give strength.
