The embattled Conservative Member of Parliament Rachel Carling-Jenkins did the interview rounds on Australian TV yesterday after she had taken some time off to recover from the discovery that changed her life forever.
Last week, she stood in parliament and made the shock announcement that she had found a secret stash of child porn on her husband’s computer and had reported him to the police earlier in the year.

The Australian public and her fellow members of parliament reacted with shock, anger, and some even with disbelief at a wife turning in her own husband.
Her former husband Gary was in March convicted and jailed for possessing child exploitation images, all neatly stacked in folders on his laptop. The couple got divorced soon after.
During the interview, she talks of the hardship of finding the stash of child porn on the computer, and how some of her friends even advised her to bear through it and stay silent.
Dr. Carling Jenkins: “There’s been a lot of people who have actually struggled with the fact that I stood up and went to the police so quickly,” the Australian Conservatives MP told the Nine Network’s A Current Affair program. I think they think I should have been silent, perhaps tried to get him help. But my role here, I felt, always, as soon as I saw those images after I somewhat recovered because, to be honest, I went into hysterics that day … all I could think of was those little girls and what can I do to help those little girls.”
The MP was also glad to hear that revealing her own story has helped other people tell about their struggles with pedophile husbands.
She claimed that she did not warn her husband about her forthcoming actions and therefore can’t understand how some wives of convicted pedophiles continue to stand by them.
“For me, it kind of just clicked in my brain and I went ‘that’s it’. My marriage ended instantly as soon as I saw those pictures.”
