A 22-year-old man in England who was charged with the murder of his 2-day-old infant daughter has been found dead in his jail cell.
Another prisoner named John Westland, 28 has been charged with murdering the baby-killer Liam Deane on Sunday.
Deane was jailed in October after he lost his temper and savagely beat his 2-day-old infant daughter Luna to death. Luna's mother left her in Deane's care while she tried to get some sleep but when she would not stop crying Deane punched her in the head, shook her by the arms and squeezed her body.
The prosecutor in the case, Michael Smith said during Deane's trial the baby had sustained injuries to her brain, body, and face. Mr. Smith also told the court, "He said he was responsible for all of the injuries that she had suffered and he said that Luna had not settled down and he lost control."
A doctor concluded that baby Luna died from "catastrophic brain injuries" from head trauma. Luna's mother issued a statement, "Seeing Luna on life support in the hospital will last with me forever. I can't describe how that felt. I would not wish it on my worst enemy."
Now it seems Deane will be unable to answer for his crimes or has he? His sentence meant he would serve a minimum of ten years to life. Ironically, Deane's own life was cut short much in the same way as baby Luna's.
Perhaps that's what his killer intended, some kind of justice for the baby girl. Westland will appear next in Leeds Crown Court Thursday.
