Homeless Man Returns $10,000 Check And Gets Schooling, House, And Job

Last week, a successful businesswoman from New Haven was hurrying along her way when she dropped a $10,000 check. A homeless man picked up the check and returned it to her. The woman thanked the man and told him he could attend her real estate school free of charge.

By Wednesday morning, the same woman, Dr. Roberta Hoskie, was prepared to offer the homeless man much more. Dr. Hoskie was about to change the man's life for the better. "He has absolutely no idea what's about to happen," she said. When the homeless man, Elmer Alvarez, went to meet with Hoskie, he was surprised to see the TV cameras in the Chamber of Commerce conference room. Hoskie streamed their meeting on Facebook Live as well.

Hoskie proceeded to tell Alvarez she would not just be paying for his real estate course through her school and English classes. "You don't have to worry about being in the cold. We have housing for you," she said. The homeless Alvarez teared up and said, "Thank God. There's always Angel's out here in heaven and earth."

Hoskie required one stipulation for helping the formerly homeless man get back on his feet, pay it forward. Hoskie said, "When you get on your feet, you go ahead and you do it for the next person and the next person and the next person." The successful businesswoman says she too was once homeless.
