A career-long film and television star, Rance Howard, and the father of director Ron Howard has died Saturday at age 89. He was Born in Harold Engle Beckenhold on November 17, 1928, and has now been confirmed dead by a tweet from Ron Howard's verified Twitter account.

Rance Howard performed in a touring children's theater when he was young, and as an adult, he toured with Hendry Fonda in the Show "Mister Roberts". His television career ranged from shows like "Bat Masterson," "Gunsmoke" and "The Waltons." He also appeared in several films such as "Frontier Woman" in 1956, "The Music Man" and recently in "A Beautiful Mind," And "Frost/Nixon".

Rance Howard is survived by his two sons, Ron and Clint Howard, as well as two granddaughters, Bryce Dallas Howard and Paige Howard and a great-grandchild. He was married to Jean Speegle Howard and Judy Howard and both previously died.
