Police say an RAF base used by the US Air Force in Suffolk was put on lockdown after a man apparently tried to drive through a checkpoint at the base.
The suspect was arrested and remanded into the custody of Suffolk Police but has not yet been identified. A statement from the US military said the base was locked down at 13:00 GMT "following reports of a disturbance" and emergency personnel were deployed to the scene.
Suffolk Police say the area should be avoided for the time being. RAF Mildenhall is used mainly as a transport hub by the US Air Force. The base is home to the KC-135 tanker fleet and also houses special operations units.
Around 3,200 military personnel are employed at the base with an additional 400-500 UK civilian staff. In a statement in September, the US Air Force said it would be putting plans on hold to relocate operations to a base in Germany until 2024.
