Just a week after the city of Oakland was making headlines for its Democratic Mayor warning ‘illegal aliens’ of possible ICE operations being at hand (see our related coverage), a new controversy is brewing which concerns American first responders.
In this case, you can take ‘brewing’ literally as it concerns a coffee shop that refuses to serve the city’s police officers.
In what seems to be an extension of Mayor Libby Schaaf’s policies, the coffee shop, called “Hasta Muerte Coffee”, states on its Instagram account that you need to "talk to your neighbors, not the police."

"We have a policy of asking police to leave for the physical and emotional safety of our customers and ourselves."

A few weeks ago, it followed up on that policy and turned away an Oakland police officer.

Workers at Hasta Muerte did not respond to requests for comment on the policy to refuse service to police officers.
Oakland City Councilmember Mr Noel Gallo: "My understanding is they're not going to serve police officers."
