One day after burying their hero policeman who tried in vain to stop an ISIS attack on French soil last week (see our related coverage) this morning a man in Grenoble stole a car and tried to run a car into a group of soldiers who were jogging (for reference, that is how last week’s terrorist attack began as well).

The man was shouting in Arabic and there was also a woman in the car.

Police reported later today that he has now been arrested in a market in Grenoble. The incident occurred when a group of soldiers was almost hit by a car while jogging near their barracks in south-eastern France.

The soldiers, who are part of the 93rd Mountain Artillery Regiment reported that they managed to avoid the oncoming vehicle in Varces-Allières-et-Risset.

According to the official report, the driver shouted in Arabic at the group of soldiers who were able to jump out of the way and then took off in what the report said was a stolen Peugeot 208.
Army spokesman Colonel Benoit Brulon, said: ‘At around 8:15 am today, a man verbally threatened six or seven soldiers who were out jogging. Then he did the same thing to a second group of runners.
‘When they returned to speak to him, he tried to ram them. The soldiers managed to get on to the pavement without being crushed.
‘Gendarmes cordoned off the area and opened an investigation. On the military side, we have reinforced our security perimeter. A search has been launched to try and find the driver.’
