After stepping down as Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan has endorsed Ultra-RINO Kevin McCarthy as his replacement and his own goals haven't exactly aligned with the Trump Administration. Ryan's endorsement will greatly boost McCarthy's chances but it may not be enough to get him elected as Speaker. "We all think that Kevin is the right person," Ryan said on NBC's "Meet the Press".

It was widely assumed that Ryan favored Steve Scalise as his replacement but his announcement is not necessarily unexpected either. A growing rift between Ryan and Trump makes his endorsement of McCarthy a perfect candidate to further drive thwart the Trump Administration. The Conservative Review even ranked McCarthy 17 on their list of Top 25 RINOs.
During his interview with anchor Chuck Todd, Ryan added, "I think Kevin's the right guy to step up." The abrupt announcement of Ryan's retirement has led to a fog of uncertainty in the fractious House Republican conference. Ryan had initially said he would not announce his endorse until after the November election since he wouldn't be stepping down until then anyway.

Maintaining control of the House is the biggest concern for many Republicans and the uncertainty surrounding the latest news could fuel the intra-party fight. The main competition for McCarthy is Scalise, a six-term Republican who raised $3 million to help colleagues with reelection so far this year landing a new record. Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio did announce he is considering a run for speaker, his entry in the race would strain political coalitions that McCarthy has been building.
