Classy Melania Trump Joins Barbara Bush’s Funeral

First Lady Melania Trump joined former presidents and their first ladies as they gathered to say their goodbyes and pay their respects to former first lady Barbara Bush at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston on Saturday.

A historic photo of living former presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and George H.W. Bush with their first ladies Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama joined by current first lady Melania Trump is now going viral. The photo was shared by Richard Grenell, former U.S. spokesman at the United Nations and the national security spokesman. Melania and Michelle are seen in the photo arm in arm together.

Everyone in the said historic photo is smiling and appears relaxed. The photo is likely taken after the celebration of Barbara Bush’s life, best known for having the rare distinction of serving as a first lady and first mom to U.S. presidents.

Melania has been honoring Barbara Bush in her own little ways such as several touching posts on her social media accounts. She also wrote about the service: “What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful woman.”

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">It was my honor to travel to Houston to give my respects to Barbara Bush and the remarkable life she led as a mother, wife, and fearless First Lady. My sincerest thoughts and prayers continue to be with George H.W., and the entire Bush family.</p>&mdash; Melania Trump (@FLOTUS) <a href="https://twitter.com/FLOTUS/status/987751695013826561?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 21, 2018</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">What a beautiful tribute to a wonderful woman who lived for God, family and country. <a href="https://t.co/sBKNmkgsI6">pic.twitter.com/sBKNmkgsI6</a></p>&mdash; Melania Trump (@FLOTUS) <a href="https://twitter.com/FLOTUS/status/987746675165974528?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 21, 2018</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

In another post, the current first lady also thanked Texas law enforcement on the tarmac in Houston for “keeping everyone safe today.”

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Thank you to <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Texas?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Texas</a> law enforcement for ensuring the safety of everyone today. <a href="https://t.co/ThFEyeQOfl">pic.twitter.com/ThFEyeQOfl</a></p>&mdash; Melania Trump (@FLOTUS) <a href="https://twitter.com/FLOTUS/status/987773959184596992?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 21, 2018</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Melania’s sweetest gesture, however, could be her thoughtful effort of bringing several White House staffers along with her to the funeral who had served in the first Bush administration when Barbara was the first lady.

White House spokesperson Stephanie Grisham said: “Mrs. Trump brought George Hainey, former head maitre d’ at the White House, and Buddy Carter, a current butler, to the funeral with her as invited guests. She knew they were very close to the Bush family and wanted them to be able to pay their respects.”

President Donald Trump decided not to attend the funeral to “avoid disruptions.” Sitting presidents are also not usually expected to attend such services for former first ladies.
