Just a day after attending the funeral of his wife, Barbara, former President George H.W. Bush has been hospitalized in Houston with an infection.
Family spokesman Jim McGrath announced on Twitter that the 93-year-old Bush is “responding to treatments and appears to be recovering.”
The 41st U.S. President was admitted to Houston Medical Hospital on Sunday morning after the said infection spread to his blood.

Bush is already wheelchair-bound; and he also employs an electric scooter to move around after developing a form of Parkinson’s disease. He has been hospitalized several times in recent years for treatment for respiratory problems.
Just last year, Bush spent two weeks in the hospital for treatment of pneumonia and chronic bronchitis, a constant irritation of the lining of tubes that carry air to one’s lungs. Doctors to the former president said chronic bronchitis is a condition that is more prevalent with advanced age, and can also aggravate pneumonia symptoms.
He was also hospitalized for more than two weeks in January last year for pneumonia. He had to spend some time then in intensive care as doctors inserted a breathing tube and connected him to a ventilator.
