First Couple Pulls Out Red Carpet For Macrons

The ‘special relationship’ that seems to have always existed between the first couples of the US and the UK is apparently being hijacked as US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania were clearly happy to welcome the French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte to the White House.

The French President had brought an oak tree sapling (coming directly from the site of the Battle of Belleau Wood from World War I, a moment in history of which President Trump is an avid reader) with him from France as a gift to the US’s First couple which both Mr. Trump and Mr. Macron could be seen planting afterwards on the south lawn of the White House.

Mr. Macron and Mr. Trump clearly have hit it off and also the first ladies enjoyed each other’s company. The government leaders of France and the US will be discussing various topics in the coming days as the Macrons are due to be received with a full state dinner.

The two political newcomers are keenly aware of their differences but the couples have indeed hit it off during their various visits to each other.

Underneath the clear friendship for each other, there are of course stark contrasts in world policy that will have to be discussed in the coming days, such as Mr Macron’s wish for the US to re-enter the Paris climate agreement and his wish that Mr. Trump allows US Special Forces to stay in Syria for the long term.

Asked before his visit how he felt about these differences and about the scandals surrounding the Trump presidency, French President Macron said on ‘Fox News Sunday’: "I'm not the one to judge … or to consider because of his controversies or because of his investigations your President is less credible for me, for my people and for the rest of the world."

"I'm here to deal with the President of the United States and people of the United States elected Donald Trump."

Nice, an unbiased reporting of the facts with out

an underlying narrative against Trump. I'd like to see more articles written like this…
