The illegal immigrants will remain in custody pending removal proceedings or the outcomes of their cases. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials working with local law enforcement raided the Heartland business Wednesday morning. Midwest Precast Concrete facility on Washington Street in Mt. Pleasant was the target of the raid.
Law enforcement at the scene said ICE agents were serving a federal warrant at the business but declined to make any further comment. The official referred local news KTVO to the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa who also declined to comment. A representative from Midwest Precast Concrete declined to comment on the raid as well.

Local community members stood and watched the scene unfold. Mt. Pleasant High School student Oscar Lopez, 15, was among the onlookers and he said both he and his father along with 60-70 others were taken into custody. Lopez said, "We really don't know anything. ICE officers just said that they couldn't give us much information…that they were going to transport them to Cedar Rapids or Rock Island, (Illinois)I believe…and from other people that we've heard…they said around 9:30 in the morning … officers came in and told everyone to get on the wall."
