Police have arrested a man after he exchanged gunfire with officers and shouting about President Trump and even draping a flag over the counter in the lobby of the Trump-owned Trump National Doral Golf Club near Miami.
Doral Police Chief Hernan Organvidez said they were first alerted of an “active shooter” at around 1:30 a.m. Officers from Doral and Miami-Dade confronted the man immediately and exchanged gunfire with him. The man was quickly “neutralized” and taken into custody.
Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez said of the suspect: “He was yelling and spewing some information about President Trump and that’s what we know so far. And he had an American flag that he did drape over the counter.”
Perez also shared that a Doral officer suffered an unspecified injury.
Perez praised the officers who “risked their lives” to save the lives of the people staying in the hotel whose safety could have been put at risk with an armed and dangerous man shooting around.
While local police are in charge of the case for the meantime, Perez admitted that the Secret Service and the FBI will also be dispatched to look into the matter.
The Trump Organization purchased the property in 2012. It used to be known as the Doral Resort & Spa. The resort’s signature course is Blue Monster at Doral.
