At this point I heard the dog yelping and running around, loads of people ran over to attend to the injured." Another witness said, "People were flung everywhere. I saw a man in a bush afterward and a lady with head injuries."

Police say there is no indication that the event was terror-related, but a forensic tent has been erected at the scene of the collision. North West Ambulance Service issued a statement saying, "We were called at 9:49 p.m. to reports of a collision between a car and pedestrians. We currently have five patients, all in a serious condition. We have four ambulances, an advanced paramedic, a senior clinician and three hazardous area response teams (HART) at the scene."
"At 9.50pm this evening, Thursday 31 May, police were called to Europa Way, Trafford Park to reports that a car had collided with a number of pedestrians," according to the GMP. "Emergency services are at the scene, and there are currently five reported injuries. The car failed to stop at the scene and inquiries are ongoing to trace the vehicle. Authorities got a description of the vehicle from witnesses who say didn't even stop once plowing into the pedestrians. The driver responsible for the collision fled in a blue BMW 330d with registration number "YA17 VSJ" but was apprehended a short time later. The GMP said, "Officers investigating a multiple casualty collision in Trafford overnight have made an arrest. In the early hours of this morning, a 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a collision. He remains in police custody."
The GMP also said roads in the area would remain closed for several hours as the investigation continues. Europa Way is just a few hundred yards west of the football ground and south of MediaCity, the location of major broadcasting studios BBC and ITV.
