After nearly a month out of the public view, the first lady Melania Trump may finally emerge from her public hiatus. The first lady is expected to host a reception for Gold Star families with her husband President Trump on Monday. The news that Melania may finally return to the public sphere was announced by a White House schedule for Monday which lists the Gold Star Families Memorial Day reception as a closed-press event.

The first lady underwent a "routine" procedure to treat a benign kidney condition earlier last month and has not been seen publicly since May 19. The first lady's office issued a statement saying the procedure was "successful and there were no complications." Ever since Melania underwent the procedure and disappeared from public life to recover, a rash of conspiracy theories flourished in her absence. The president visited his wife at Walter Reed Medical Center shortly after her procedure and issued an update on Twitter saying that she is in "good spirits".

The first lady's spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said, "Sadly, we deal with conspiracy theories all the time, so this is nothing new, just more silly nonsense. She is doing great. I wouldn’t characterize it as a long absence. She was hospitalized for almost a week and is now home and recovering." Some people speculated that Melania was doing everything from getting a sex change to becoming an informant to testify in return for immunity in the Mueller investigation. So far, all these rumors have been proven to be just that, rumors.

The massive amounts of speculation surrounding Melania's whereabouts over the last several weeks prompted a response from the first lady on Twitter.
