After the historic meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean Leader Kim Jung-Un, one of the first to congratulate the two leaders as they left the island of Sentosa was China, whose foreign minister Mr Wang Yi said the meeting had truly been historic and the two leaders "can sit together and have equal talks has important and positive meaning, and is creating a new history."

Beijing, just as Washington had done earlier, repeated their call for a "full denuclearisation" of the Korean peninsula.

Mr Kim Jung-Un said: "Today we had a historic meeting and decided to leave the past behind and we are about to sign the historic document. The world will see a major change. I'd like to express my gratitude to President Trump to make this meeting happen."

To that effect, Mr Trump replied that "We're very proud of what happened today. Our whole relationship with North Korea and the Korean peninsula will be a much different situation than it has in the past."
Mr Trump’s supporters in Europe, such as Nigel Farage, the former UKIP leader, were quick to congratulate him on the progress made.
