A new round of protests has sprung up around the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Philadelphia. The protesters have named their event Occupy ICE and have set up camp around the federal office until it was broken up by Philadelphia Police Thursday.

The protesters have since moved their protest camp to City Hall where Center City Mayor Kenney has given them permission to stay. The misguided protests are so obliviously ignorant they are borderline disgusting. The movement to vilify the civil servants who risk their lives every day to keep the very same protesters safe is so outrageous that one has to wonder if they are simply paid to be there. The Occupy ICE protests have sprung up all over the country over the last several days including in Atlanta, Georgia.

Occupy ICE is making unrealistic demands and in the process are vilifying civil servants who are only doing a job they are paid to do. It is elected U.S. officials who are responsible for the policy they enforce and vilifying ICE employees is like getting mad at a Walmart cashier because you don't like the store's prices. If these protesters had any common sense or had done any research at all, they would understand that the only way to bring about meaningful policy change is to pressure the people making the policy in Congress.
In fact, the now former Director of ICE Thomas Homan has publicly stated that the agency lobbied Congress to get policy fixed that would stop children from being separated from their families but Congress didn't act. I strongly suggest giving this clip a listen and hear for yourself what former ICE Director Homan has to say.

While the Mayor is allowing the Philadelphia Occupy ICE movement to camp out on city property, protesters in Washington D.C. have turned Occupy ICE into a personal attack on federal workers. One protester at ICE headquarters demanded to know whether officers had children while the crowd screamed, "Quit your jobs!" at the ICE workers. To add a little perspective to Occupy ICE, many of the protesters are extremists who are also prison abolitionists, anarchist collectives, and Democratic Socialists of America.

These people quite literally want to destroy society and turn America into a third world country because that is what it would become without secured borders. These so-called protesters really need a lesson in civics as a writer named Darren Tromblay at The Hill pointed out. "Agencies do not make political decisions," Tromblay wrote. "Elected officials do. Attacking ICE is an assault on the rule-of-law and is a step toward disenfranchising the voting public who — rightly or wrongly — cast their ballots."
