A protest quickly grew into thousands in Bucharest's Victoriei Square against the government led by the PSD-ALDE coalition. Members of the Romanian diaspora organized the protest and numbers soon swelled to nearly 100,000 people while another 50,000 protested in smaller cities around the country.

The civil unrest in the country is growing as citizens are banding together in protest of the PSD-ALDE government coalition. The gendarmerie used crowd control tactics such as tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd which only escalated the situation into a violent climax around 11 p.m.
The law enforcement tactics left around 452 people injured including two dozen members of the gendarmerie. 65 people were hospitalized during the violent climax as law enforcement forced people to evacuate the square. Two of the hospitalized individuals were law enforcement including a female gendarme who was beaten by a group of violent protesters before they could escape.

The tactics used by the gendarmerie have led people to question their actions and demand an explanation as to why they used so much force against protesters. In past protests, violent provocateurs have attacked the police line but were quickly removed from the crowd by the gendarmes.

Witnesses from the protest say tear gas containers were used indiscriminately throughout the evening instead of targeting the few dozen violent protesters.
