The law and order theme that helped President Trump win the White House two years ago is coming back in a big way during the last week before the midterm elections of 6 November.
In states like Texas and Tennessee, you can clearly see how the ‘border’ subject is dividing voters
Here, the contest between two definitions of American nationhood, one embracing immigration from other countries (most particularly from Mexico and Central America), and one insisting on white, principally Protestant homogeneity is the constant divide that simply copies the worldwide battle between nationalism and liberalism which has been raging for a few years now.

US President Trump is insisting that the voter’s grievances over their loss of identity combined with a fear of becoming a minority in their own country is enough the keep control of the House and Senate. In the past week, he’s even threatened to capitalise on white grievance by raising the possibility of depriving the children of undocumented immigrants of their “citizens’ birthright” under the provisions of the 14th amendment to the Constitution. The threat to do so lead to worried Spanish-speaking press headlines.

Democrats meanwhile lack any real star power and are counting on former President Obama to try and attack their foe, Trump. Whereas before he was reluctant to speak out and hoped others would fill the void of opposing the current White House administration, the former President now realizes that he is all the Democrats have left at this point.

Speaking in Miami before heading to Georgia, Mr Obama stated: “I know there are sincere conservatives who are compassionate and must think there is nothing compassionate about ripping immigrant children from the arms of their mothers at the border.”
The problem is of course that this sort of attack only lets conservatives respond with the obvious fact that Mr Obama’s White House administration sent troops to the Mexican border themselves.
President Trump easily responded: “Broken promise after broken promise. Unlike President Obama, we live under a different mantra. It’s called promises made, promises kept.”

In essence, whereas Democrats held a decisive lead in all polls months before the election, Mr Trump’s relentless campaigning on behalf of candidates in battleground states (and a resurging economy on his side) could just secure that he holds on to both House and Senate after November 6th.

Dimms say no peace, no civility, resist & fight until conservatives are out of power.
They can only push us so far until that mentality is turned upon them.
