The protest against the increase in fuel prices have resulted in a second death in France. The French police removed many blockades, but the protest continue unabated. According to the French media, an estimated 27,000 demonstrators were protesting yesterday.

Minister of Home Affairs Christophe Castaner stated that the protests are getting out of hand and should therefore be stopped by force if necessary. Since the big manifestations of Saturday, more than 550 people were wounded.

A motorcyclist succumbed to the injuries he sustained during a blockade near Valence. He drove past a traffic jam on the left, but collided with a van that was making a right turn.

Last Saturday almost 300,000 people protested. Their spontaneous protests were symbolized by yellow vests. They blocked roads, oil depots and companies.
The protesters fear that their purchasing power will deteriorate due to the policies of the government of President Macron.

With big tax increases on fuel, roads and maintenance, Mr Macron wants to make sure that the French use their car less. According to the government this is necessary to reduce pollution and to obtain a better climate.

The 'gilets jaunes' want to hold another big protest day next Saturday. Their plan is to go to the Place de la Concorde in Paris is, which is, according to the Ministry of the Interior, for security reasons not allowed.

Macron has called upon the demonstrators to enter into dialogue, but did not indicate that he was considering any concessions. Numerous business and trade organizations are now complaining that major damage is being caused by the traffic barriers.
