FBI: A Record Number of Illegal Immigrants Tried to Buy Guns in 2018

They have already committed a criminal act by staying in the country illegally, yet a number of the illegal aliens attempted to compound their transgressions by buying guns. According to a new report of background checks, the FBI has rejected a record number of illegal immigrants trying to purchase guns this year.

The National Instant Criminal Background Check System said that it has turned away a record number of attempted gun purchases from “illegal/unlawful alien” this year. The record covers the 2018 period until November, which means it still did not include data for December. Christmas purchases of guns are always typically high.

Illegal immigrants also rank at the top of those on the FBI’s “prohibited category” for gun purchases, followed by those with “adjudicated mental health”, those “convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year or a misdemeanor punishable by more than two years”, “state prohibitor” and those with “misdemeanor crime of domestic violence conviction.”

Illegal immigrants top the next category for prohibited gun purchases by more than 2 million cases.

Rounding up the top ten categories for those attempting to buy guns illegally, although in much lower numbers are those “’under indictment”, those with “’protection/restraining order for domestic violence”, those with “renounced citizenship”, those with “unlawful user/addicted to controlled substance”, those with “dishonorable discharge” and those who are “fugitive from justice.”

CORRECTION: An earlier version confused the number of attempted purchases with active records of individuals prohibited from purchasing a gun.

"illegal immigrants top the next category for prohibited gun purchases by more than 2 million cases. "

So maybe the Headline needs adjusting.

The headline is fine.
Approximately 8 million illegal immigrants tried to purchase guns; less than 6 million people adjudicated mentally ill attempted to fo so.
Thus, IM outnumbered MI by 2 million plus.

I see male military age rough-looking tough-looking Spanish-speakers in the gunshops directing girls who buy the guns and apparently later give the Spanish-speakers access to the guns.

What, no fast and furious? No. 93473 2018-12-31 : 12:42

Is the eight millions a headcount or the number of attempts to purchase by illegals?

What level of prosecution did these illegals face?

And I think it is safe to ask, why weren't these people prosecuted?

If and when these people become American citizens and get ALL the Constitutional Rights due them, they will be allowed to buy firearms. When they do buy them, they must be reminded that there is a political party which wants to disarm them. If they do become qualified....looky looky...a whole, brand new group of Republican voters.

This article is misleading and claims false data. The Indicies is the names in the database, NOT the number of checks. The author doesn't seem to understand this.

The actual stats of attempted purchases by illegal aliens was 25,825. That's a BIT short of 7.8 million. This is just sloppy blogsphere 'investigative journalism'.
