An American teacher had pleaded guilty to child sex tourism and child pornography committed in Thailand and will serve 27 years in a U.S. prison.
The U.S. Department of Justice said that Clarence “Bud” Evers, Jr., 54, taught technology at Hillcrest High School in Evergreen, Alabama for 15 years. In that period, he would spend his summer break in Thailand paying underage boys to have sex with him and even filming the obscene acts.
Evers ‘crimes happened each school break from 2010-2014 when he would go to the Southeast Asian nation to carry out the lewd acts. He would then return to the U.S. with underage pornography he’d made of the poor boys, some of whom were as young as 13 whom he had sex with.
The U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations received a tip which was traced all the way back to one of the young victims in Thailand around April 2015. They then started investigating with the help of the High Technology Investigative Unit. They raided Ever’s home on February 11, 2016, and found a “substantial amount of child pornography”. There were also encrypted data they discovered which they could not gain access to.
Evers was still teaching at the time of the raid but has since been placed in custody.
Evers was sentenced on July 14 this year. His sentence also includes a lifetime of supervised release after his prison term and fines totaling $55,000.
He admitted on April 14 when he pleaded guilty to the charges that he has been visiting Thailand since 1999 to carry out his obscene sexual crimes against Thai boys.
The Evers probe was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
