Witness statements leading up to the shooting say the man tried to punch the officer when he approached him. It is not clear if the officer was injured by the man but a scuffle ensued on the ground which is when the man grabbed a magazine from the officers belt. That is when the officer pulls back and fires six shots while yelling, "Get Down."

Some users on Twitter claimed the officer used a taser but to no effect before the scuffle broke loose on the ground.

Another Twitter user wrote that the man had tried to rob the Seven Eleven before the officers arrival and another even said he had taken a hostage.

Details surrounding what lead up to the shooting have not been clarified yet by the Huntington Beach police department, they only confirmed that there was an officer involved shooting. After the officer fired on the man, he takes a couple steps and then collapses. The officer is then able to pick up his radio from where the man was standing and radio it to dispatch. Marina High School is located near the gas station, the school was put on lock down and all students are safe. A female employee at Seven Eleven was grazed by a bullet but no other injuries were reported.
