Video Game Called "Active Shooter" Prompts Backlash From Parents

Parents are outraged at the makers of a video game that allows players to play as an "active shooter". One parent named Stephanie Robinett said, "It turns my stomach it makes me sick to watch it." Robinett found out about the game around noon Friday and being a mother of three said she couldn't believe the game exists.

"How could anyone think this is ok?" she said. The game is called "Active Shooter" and it's preview on Steam shows the player in first person gunning down civilians in the hallways of a school. Perhaps it's not the best timing for this game to come out, but it is still just a game. This is similar to the situation of pedophiles who have never offended using child sex dolls if they aren't harming children shouldn't they be allowed to use the dolls?

Maybe there is a kid out there who has the urge to find out what it is like to shoot up a school and instead of actually shooting up a school he tries the video game equivalent, Active Shooter. Perhaps the game gets him interested in a new hobby like PC gaming or makes him realize he doesn't actually want to shoot up a school after all. The game is set to be released on June 6 and is developed by Revived Games.

Robinett decided to start a petition on change.org to stop the launch of the game. The petition has over 16,000 dollars but one commenter noted that the game isn't any different than the leading titles in the genre. The game's description says, "Only in "Active Shooter", you will be able to pick the role of an Elite S.W.A.T member or the actual shooter. Lead your team, extract civilians and neutralize the shooter." So the idea of the game isn't just to simulate killing people, it is a game that lets you simulate being a SWAT member like many of the most popular games such as Rainbow Six or CS: GO and when you are on the opposite team it means you are a shooter.

"This is not only the exact plot but a mechanical clone to the Counter-Strike franchise, some of the most popular and best-selling video games for the past 20 years. It's so popular one of the professional leagues is televised on TBS. Normally I would mention free speech is exactly for the views you find intolerable and disagreeable. But this is very clearly an independent developer emulating one of the most common formats in video games.

Here are some best selling franchises with the same gameplay mechanics and story:

Rainbow-Six (Ubisoft)

Counter-Strike (Valve)

Call of Duty (Activision)

Battlefield (EA)

Far Cry (Ubisoft)

Despite wanting real world deterrents to violence like gun control, I whole-heartedly disagree with this uninformed cause. that being said, if you really are striving for something more than being reactionary, please turn your attention to the most successful and popular entities creating the same content, instead of bullying a studio of possibly 1-3 people. If you believe in your cause work for the highest impact."

I feel bad for the game developers, they must have put long hours of hardwork into this game only to have one person try to ruin it
