Trump's South Carolina Speech Highlights

The President of the United States Donald Trump appeared in South Carolina Monday despite a short delay causing Air Force One To land an hour late. President Trump didn't let the delay cut into his speech which went for an hour strong as he was surrounded by some of his most ardent supporters. The president just spoke Monday night in Columbia at a rally in support of Gov. Henry McMaster, a Republican primary candidate for governor of the state. His entire hour-long speech is below but I'm going to take some of the highlights and summarize the important parts if you don't have time watch the entire thing.

Along with President Trump, Lindsey Graham made an appearance and even traveled on Air Force One with the president to Columbia, South Carolina. The rally took place in a gym with a capacity of about 3,000 people and it was jam-packed. Trump's speech was expected to start at 7 p.m. but was slightly delayed. Media was busy setting up their equipment in the hours leading up the president's speech. Vendors also lined the street outside of the facility to provide refreshments in the 95-degree heat.

Warren said "a lot" of his supporters will attend the Trump-McMaster rally "because they support President Trump" and added it "is not a referendum on President Trump" but "a referendum on Gov. McMaster's failed leadership." Warren also met with voters at a restaurant in West Columbia just a mile from the location of the Trump-McMaster rally. The lines to hear the president speak stretched for blocks outside of the Airport High School. Hundreds of attendees were able to beat the heat as they flooded into the West Columbia school's gym.

The West Columbia school's gym was filled almost three hours before Trump was scheduled to speak with so many in attendance that some were forced to stand. Dozens of supporters were turned away after the Airport High School gym reached its capacity.

Protestors were so adamant about disrupting the rally they were willing to stand in the 95-degree heat with sighs such as the one held by a woman named Marta Burnette which criticized Trump's hair. Burnette shouted anti-Trump rhetoric and propaganda from outside the gym saying things like, "He's incompetent. He's mean. He's a liar. He's a bad leader. He's a racist. He hates women. He's a bully."

When the time came for Trump to finally arrive, U.S. Rep. Tom Rice pumped up the crowd and drew a huge roar when he spoke about Trump. He also mentioned U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and former governor Nikki Haley which drew another loud roar from the crowd in support. When Rice mentioned former President Barack Obama he was instantly met with "boos". Trump's Air Force One jet was delayed due to thunderstorms in the area but he finally arrived just as the weather began to subside.

The President stepped on stage at 8:01 p.m. drawing an immense roar of support from the crowd of over 3,000. The crowd was largely supportive of the president's words, minus one moment when President Trump referred to US Sen. Lindsey Graham as a friend drawing a few sporadic "boos". President Trump also brought up the progress he recently made in North Korea prompting another roar from the crowd.

"The world is going to be a much safer place," Trump said. "We are getting the remains of our great heroes." He added that he thinks "it will work out" with North Korea but it won't be easy. When Trump asked whether Hillary Clinton could have negotiated the deal with North Korea the crowd instantly chanted, "lock her up!" Trump also credited McMaster saying, "He is a fighter". The president also praised the First Lady which also drew a positive response from the crowd.

Trump did credit Clinton with being a tough candidate but said, "Sometimes you have to toot your own horn." He also noted a Hollywood producer said Trump would go down as one of the greatest presidents in history referring to a recent statement from Hollywood legend David Lynch. He also mentioned trade and said Canada and Europe have placed tariffs on American goods. Trump said the country has lost $817 billion in trade and called the issue one of fairness. "We're the piggy bank they like to take from," he said. "We've been as nice as we can as long as we can. We're going to straighten it out."

The president ended the rally by saying, "We will make America wealthy again. We will make America strong again. We will make America safe again, Henry," he said as he turned to McMaster. "We will make America great again." The crowd roared in approval.
