Embattled former influential Hollywood player and film producer Harvey Weinstein entered a plea of not guilty to charges of sexually assaulting a woman in 2006 during an arraignment in downtown Manhattan on Monday morning. It was the third sexual assault case charged against the film mogul.

Weinstein also pleaded not guilty to the first two cases back in June. He has been on $1 million bail since his arrest in May. He has also consistently denied committing the alleged crimes against the women who have come forward to accuse him.

The new charges against Weinstein date back to 2006 and are punishable by a minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. If convicted of either of the offenses relating to the first two women, Weinstein will face up to 25 years in prison.

The new charges include two counts of predatory sexual assault for allegedly forcing a woman into oral sex.

Weinstein’s lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, spoke outside the courthouse and insisted on his client’s innocence. Brafman said: “Today was a formality. Mr. Weinstein is not a predator; he is not a rapist and I believe that when this case is over we will ultimately see him be exonerated.”

Reporters described the 66-year-old Hollywood player as looking “pasty” and “pale” during the court proceedings. Weinstein wore a black suit and tie to the arraignment.
Today’s atmosphere outside the courtroom had been less of a circus and appeared much more subdued in comparison to what happened last month’s previous arraignment.

Aside from Weinstein’s plea, the Manhattan Supreme Court James Burke heard but did not rule on prosecutors ‘demands for a more stringent bail arrangement. The debate alone on bail consumed most of the 15-minute arraignment.
Weinstein faces additional investigation in Los Angeles, London and also by the US federal government.
