The War On Free Speech's Latest Causality Gab Faces Insidious Threat

The sociopolitical climate is changing and its changing at a rate that is unpredictably fast but one staple of today's world is the undeniable fact that social justice is seeping into and taking precedent in more and more aspects of our lives. Young people in universities who are being indoctrinated with the far-left ideology that includes things like "safe spaces" and "trigger words" are going out into the workforce and spreading their ideology.

This was recently highlighted by a meme that gained more headlines than any other meme since Pepe the frog. The meme I'm referring to is the "NPC" meme which characterizes those on the left as drone-like, hive-mind, replications all spewing the same predictable lines much like computer-controlled characters in video games which is what NPC stands for, "Non-playable character". The left was so humiliated and offended by the meme, which is composed of a grey-faced stick figure, that it was referred to in mainstream media publications as "dehumanizing".

If one only read far-left publications they might think that the NPC meme is as sinister as the Nazi Swastika. Bizarre examples of left-wing ideology erupting into pure chaos began taking place across North America in the last several years. One notable example was in 2017 at Evergreen State College in Washington where left-wing students composed of minorities literally took over the campus. When the dean of the college attempted to negotiate with the students he was mocked and told to "put his hand down" while he was speaking, then when he obeyed the students relentlessly mocked him.

They even demanded a day at the college where white people were forced to stay home and when one white professor disobeyed their demands and showed up to the college to teach he had to be escorted off the campus by security as mobs of students wielding bats were patrolling the parking lots searching for him.

Another professor, an elderly white lady, was surrounded by a mob of minority students who held her hostage and would not let her leave while shouting, "Hey hey, ho ho, these racist teachers have to go!" This woman had never said anything racist and has dedicated her life to teaching people of all color. How could things get so far out of control?

I recently heard a conversation between two comedians talking on a podcast about what being a comedian in 2018 is like. It was an interesting discussion but one thing stood out to me, one comedian said that he thinks the reason comedy is so good right now is that it is dangerous. Careers are destroyed with a single tweet, past behaviors are being dug up and exposed, and every comedian has to worry about becoming a victim of a false sexual assault allegation.

But what this is just comedy? Why are there such dire ramifications in today's sociopolitical climate? One comedian in Canada named Mike Ward was even fined $30,000 for a joke that poked fun at a disabled child. Ward later told Vice news, "I'm disappointed and a little embarrassed to be Canadian. On the world stage, we look like a bunch of buffoons that can't tell the difference between comedy — artistic expression — and real life. We are going to appeal."

Comedy is just one aspect of the world and it is perhaps the most light-hearted and lenient industry when it comes to being politically correct. But if comedians are living in fear of offending the wrong group or saying the wrong word, what about the rest of America or those who have jobs in academia?

The social justice, NPC, takeover by the far-left of America reached a boiling point when the "Big Five" tech companies that dominate the industry and practically rule our lives got together and collectively decided to not just ban, but deplatform conservative commentator Alex Jones. Years of work, hundreds of hours if not thousands of hours of broadcasts were lost when Jones' YouTube channel was taken down.

They even came after his website, and pulled its social media channels down as well. But the silencing of Alex Jones didn't stop there. Even the email service "MailChimp" banned Jones giving him only a couple hours to download and save any documents in his account he wished to save. Then the web hosting company that Jones uses to host his InfoWars website banned him. Even reuploading one of Alex Jones videos is enough to get your account suspended in many of these far-left websites.

Conservatives were outraged but those in the middle anxiously sat and rung their hands in silence thinking that it would never happen to them and whatever reason Alex Jones was deplatformed must have been serious. Throughout his strange career, Alex Jones has espoused many so-called "conspiracy theories", but equally bizarre is how often the things he says end up being true. After he was systematically erased from the internet, Jones warned people that he was only a test and this was only the beginning.

Sure enough, conservative websites began being removed from Facebook citing "spam violations" and then the next big blow was dealt when the free speech haven Gab was banned by all of the web services they used to run the company. The left-wing companies that led the charge against Gab included PayPal which cited the recent Synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh as the reason for their banning Gab from their service.

But just because the shooter had a profile on Gab and said racist things does that mean that Gab should be punished and taken down? By that same logic, every shooter in the last two years alone would have taken down every major social media company because they all had Facebook and YouTube profiles from the Texas church shooter to the YouTube headquarters attack by the disgruntled YouTuber. Shouldn't Facebook and YouTube be taken down since the perpetrators in those crimes maintained active profiles on their websites?

That is the problem with the current monopoly in the tech industry which is known for being predominately left-wing, they have too much power over our lives and it translates to political control. Facebook actively promotes far-left companies while banning those on the right that are gaining traction. This is true election meddling and yet Congress is not composed of technology experts and doesn't understand the threat that the Big Five's monopoly represents.

Taking down was just the latest example of them silencing those they don't agree with and therein lies the problem: the destruction of our First Amendment right to free speech. This isn't just a war being waged from computer to computer, this is a war of political ideology that has reached a tipping point where violence has become the norm. At this very moment, masked Antifa thugs are allowed to roam in mobs in liberal cities like Portland, Oregon and the founder of Gab has faced death threats. He even recently wrote on Twitter that his parents home had been nearly blown up.

He wrote, "Just got a call from my parents—who are not home—their neighbor smelled gas, called the fire company. Someone turned on the propane tank on my parent’s gas grill, turned the burner on, and let the propane leak out. This is terrorism, incited by the media. Pray for us."

There are those who say that America is on the verge of a second civil war, but the reality is that it started long ago, its just not being fought on the traditional battlefield. Our lives have been forever changed by the internet and that is where the war truly is but that isn't to say that political violence won't get worse.

If the attacks on free speech continue long enough it may spur the group of American's who call themselves patriots. By Patriots, I mean every hardworking, taxpaying, American citizen who holds a job, helps his community and contributes toward making the country a better place and they have about had enough.
