Reality TV star and businesswoman Kim Kardashian and her husband rapper Kanye West donated $200,000 each to wildfire relief efforts. But that isn't all that the couple did after narrowly escaping the fire themselves. Despite nearly losing their own home, Kim presented a firefighter who did his family's home to the fires with a $100,000 check.

The 38-year-old Kardashian told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres how grateful she is to the firefighters who helped save their home. The couple was criticized for hiring private firefighters to help protect their home but Kim offered a reasonable explanation for the move saying, "We were lucky. We were really blessed to have the help of the firefighters that we did. Our house is right on the end of a big park. The whole park had caught fire, so if our house went, then every other house would go."

The reality TV star added, "We know not everyone has this luxury available to them, but we were able to get private firefighters," she explained. "Because of them, they saved our home and saved our neighborhood. I had them make sure that they controlled every house on the edge. It wasn’t just my house."

Some of the hateful tweets directed at the family for hiring private firefighters said:
<i>"Assholes. Hiring them privately is disgusting. They have everything they need to rebuild, and taking brave firefighters away from those who truly need it is absolutely a grandiose display of abusive privilege. Fuck them."</i>
And:
<i>"In doing so, they remove valuable resources that should be available to all in fighting this disaster. Where do you "private firefighters" come from and who paid to train them??? More than likely, the public."</i>

During her appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show", Kim announced the two separate $200,000 donations, one from her and one from her husband Kanye. One check is going to the Wildfire Relief Fund and the other to the California Fire Foundation. Kim added, "We're so grateful to them. Honestly, we couldn’t do it without them."

The man who Kim personally presented the $100,000 check to was a firefighter named Michael. Both he and his wife Lisa lost their house in the Woolsey fire that nearly destroyed the Kardashian's home. Many residents also lost their homes in Ventura and Los Angeles counties including "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Camille Grammer and Gerard Butler.

Kim and Kanye aren't the only ones offering support to Californian's in wake of the tragic fires. Kim's sister Khloe Kardashian personally purchased supplies from CVS for firefighters. Other celebrities such as Rob Lowe and his sons and nephews were helping assist evacuations and keeping firefighters supplied with food.
