MI - Detroit Pastor Charged With Murdering Transgender Woman

A wolf in a sheep's clothing paraded himself as a bringer of the gospel, a pastor, and yet he has been charged with the murder of a transgender woman. Police say that 35-year-old Kelly Stough was shot and killed in Detroit by a man identified as Albert Weathers, a former pastor. Stough's killing marks the 24th murder of a transgender person in 2018.

The 46-year-old Weathers appeared in court Monday and was given a $1 million bond. Weathers was arraigned on charges of open murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, an aggravating circumstance that could see Weathers jailed for life.

Police investigators say it was December 7th when Stough and Weathers came in contact but they would not release any further details. Stough was found shot and killed the morning after, who thinks they can guess what happened here? A case of a transgender woman not being honest about her sexuality and leading on a heterosexual man without revealing they are transgender?

That is purely my own speculation and I do not want to paint all transgenders in this light, but it seems when they are murdered in a seemingly passionate crime, it often is the case that things stemmed from a relationship. Weathers is listed as a pastor at a church located near the crime scene from 1997 to 1999.

He rented space in a local church for a small congregation of his own until he was arrested. As per usual with ongoing investigations, police are being tight-lipped about the motive or any other details surrounding the murder. ABC affiliate WXYZ reported that Weathers fled the scene and even clocked into work before alerting police that he had shot a man who he claimed tried to rob him.

The mother of the victim, Jessica Williams Stough, said in an interview with local media that her daughter "was always a happy kid but bullied because of his tendencies." Kelly was planning on becoming a fashion designer and she was a transgender person of color making her part of a very small subset of the population.

She used her background to inspire other members of the LGBTQ community. She once said, "You keep fighting, keep pushing and live your life. Don’t let the world dictate how you should live."

President of the Fair Michigan Justice Project Dana Nessel said Stough's murder "reflects the excessive brutality that members of Detroit’s transgender community constantly face". Is that true? Or was Kelly actually committing a robbery? We won't know until the trial is concluded and the discovery is released.

Weathers was working for The Great Lakes Water Authority but they have announced his termination following the charges brought against him. A defense attorney speaking on behalf of Weathers said his client maintains his innocence and plans on arguing for a lower bond.
